Role Overview

We are seeking a Senior GitHub Migration Engineer / Fire Chief to lead the migration of enterprise code repositories from Azure DevOps to GitHub Enterprise while serving as a hands-on senior software engineer supporting critical engineering initiatives. This role is responsible for designing and executing migration strategies, modernizing CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions, maintaining platform reliability, and acting as the technical lead ("Fire Chief") during production incidents. The ideal candidate combines expertise in software engineering, DevOps, platform engineering, GitHub Enterprise administration, and cloud-native technologies to enable a seamless developer experience and ensure operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead end-to-end migration of repositories from Azure DevOps to GitHub Enterprise using industry best practices and migration tools such as GitHub Enterprise Importer (GEI) .
• Assess, plan, execute, validate, and troubleshoot repository migrations while minimizing downtime and ensuring data integrity.
• Design, build, migrate, and optimize CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions , Azure Pipelines, and other automation tools.
• Administer GitHub Enterprise , including repository governance, branch protection rules, CODEOWNERS, repository permissions, security policies, and workflow standardization.
• Develop reusable GitHub Actions workflows and CI/CD templates to improve engineering productivity.
• Act as the technical Fire Chief during production incidents by leading incident response, coordinating cross-functional teams, driving root cause analysis, and ensuring timely resolution.
• Build and maintain cloud-native development platforms using Docker , Kubernetes , Terraform , and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) principles.
• Implement and promote GitOps practices and modern DevOps methodologies across engineering teams.
• Collaborate with software engineering, DevOps, security, and platform teams to improve developer experience, platform reliability, and engineering standards.
• Create technical documentation, migration playbooks, operational runbooks, and knowledge-sharing materials.
• Continuously improve development workflows, automation, deployment reliability, and platform performance.

Requirements

• 8+ years of experience in Software Engineering, DevOps, Platform Engineering, or Site Reliability Engineering.
• Proven experience migrating repositories from Azure DevOps (Azure Repos) to GitHub Enterprise .
• Strong expertise in GitHub Enterprise , GitHub Enterprise Cloud , and GitHub Enterprise Importer (GEI) .
• Hands-on experience with GitHub Actions , Azure Pipelines , Jenkins , and modern CI/CD practices.
• Strong proficiency with Git , repository management, branching strategies, pull requests, and code review workflows.
• Experience administering GitHub security and governance features, including Branch Protection , CODEOWNERS , Dependabot , Secret Scanning , and Code Scanning .
• Hands-on experience with Docker , Kubernetes , Terraform , Infrastructure as Code (IaC) , and GitOps .
• Experience working with cloud platforms such as Microsoft Azure (preferred), AWS, or GCP.
• Proven ability to lead production incident response, troubleshoot complex technical issues, and drive post-incident improvements.
• Strong communication, stakeholder management, documentation, and technical leadership skills.
• Experience mentoring engineers and working within Agile software development environments
