Lead Backend Developer - (SAP CAP & BTP)

Summary::

We are looking for a highly capable Backend Developer – Lead to design and build the core backend foundation of a modern Retail Execution Platform. This role will lead backend architecture and implementation using SAP Business Technology Platform (SAP BTP) and the SAP Cloud Application Programming Model (CAP) , driving the development of scalable, multi-tenant enterprise SaaS solutions.

The ideal candidate will have deep hands-on expertise in SAP BTP , SAP CAP , CDS data modeling , and HDI Container-based persistence , with the ability to define architecture standards, guide engineering teams, and deliver enterprise-grade backend services. Experience with Node.js is preferred but not mandatory.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the architecture, design, and development of enterprise-grade backend solutions using SAP Business Technology Platform (SAP BTP) and the SAP Cloud Application Programming Model (CAP) .
• Design scalable, secure, and multi-tenant backend architectures that support configurable SaaS applications and enterprise-scale deployments.
• Develop and maintain CAP services, Core Data Services (CDS) models, business logic, and reusable backend components following SAP best practices.
• Design and optimize data models, persistence layers, and database structures ensuring performance, scalability, and maintainability.
• Build and expose secure RESTful and OData APIs to support web, mobile, and enterprise integrations.
• Configure and leverage SAP BTP platform services such as XSUAA , Destination Service , Connectivity Service , Event Mesh , and Job Scheduler to build secure and reliable enterprise applications.
• Develop scalable data ingestion, transformation, synchronization, and canonical data management solutions to support enterprise business processes.
• Ensure application reliability through structured error handling, logging, monitoring, observability, performance optimization, and production support.
• Establish backend development standards, reusable frameworks, coding guidelines, and quality engineering practices, including code reviews and automated testing.
• Collaborate closely with Product Owners, Solution Architects, Functional Consultants, QA, DevOps, and cross-functional teams to translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions.
• Support CI/CD pipelines, deployment automation, release management, and SAP BTP governance to ensure smooth application delivery.
• Drive the adoption of AI-assisted development tools such as Cursor , GitHub Copilot , or similar platforms to improve engineering productivity while maintaining high standards of code quality and architectural integrity.
• Experience with Node.js is preferred for SAP CAP development.

Required Experience

• 10+ years of enterprise backend software engineering experience.
• Extensive hands-on experience with SAP Business Technology Platform (SAP BTP) and the SAP Cloud Application Programming Model (CAP) for enterprise application development.
• Strong expertise in Core Data Services (CDS) , CAP service development, and domain modeling.
• Proven experience with SAP HANA HDI Containers , database design, and persistence patterns.
• Experience designing and building multi-tenant SaaS platforms on SAP BTP.
• Strong experience developing enterprise APIs, business services, and backend components for mission-critical applications.
• Solid understanding of authentication, authorization, tenant isolation, security, and auditability within SAP BTP applications.
• Experience working with SAP BTP services such as XSUAA , Destination Service , Connectivity Service , Job Scheduler , Event Mesh , and related platform capabilities is highly desirable.
• Experience integrating SAP BTP applications with SAP S/4HANA , SAP ECC , and other enterprise systems.
• Proven experience implementing canonical data models, transformation layers, data normalization, and reconciliation services.
• Experience building backend services supporting offline synchronization, conflict resolution, and mobile-enabled enterprise applications.
• Strong understanding of logging, monitoring, observability, and production support for distributed enterprise applications.
• Demonstrated experience leading backend architecture, establishing engineering standards, conducting code reviews, and mentoring development teams.
• Familiarity with feature flags, metadata-driven platforms, and configurable SaaS architectures.
• Experience with SAP CI/CD pipelines, transport management, quality gates, engineering governance, and platform-wide service templates.
• Experience with Node.js is preferred but not mandatory , particularly in the context of SAP CAP development.
